PILOT KNOB LUTHERAN COMMUNIQUÉ
(Official communication to the public)
You have a destiny. There is a predetermined and inevitable action that will take place at the end of time. Since time like the physical earth had a beginning, it will end, then what? Your destiny includes the fact that you will die. Hebrews 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.
We know we are getting older and if you’re past fifty-five you tend to think about it more. I don’t remember thinking about death at all when I was young, but not so any more.
Scripture says; “man is destined to die once. . .” To most of us we’ve never thought of coming back to life only to die a second time, or even at third time. Unless you believe in reincarnation it’s obvious we die one time and that’s it forever.
There were exceptions; Lazarus who was raised from the dead four days after being laid in a tomb, and also Elijah who was taken to heaven without dying, as well as Enoch. Then of course those deceased saints who were raised at Christ’s death, they too would die again. Matthew 27:52-3 . . .and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[a] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
If we are destined to die once, what if anything happens after that? Judgment! I hear it often mostly by young people, ‘don’t judge me’. One thing you can count on without exception, judgment by an impartial and all-knowing judge, Jesus Christ who knows your every thought and motive. As a follower of Jesus Christ you will not be judged for your sins of commission or omission. In fact Jesus will not be able to recall one small sin of any kind in your life! Not because he can’t remember them all, but because he doesn’t know of any. That’s the beauty of saving faith and the cleansing blood of Christ. They have all been paid in full for all eternity. The judgment believer’s face will be rewards based on good works done as a believer to honor Jesus Christ.
Are you storing up treasures in heaven or just treasurers on earth that will disappear?
