(Official communication to the public)

I don’t believe we need reminded that we live in a time when people are recording our every move on their smart phones, while social media and government agencies are collecting personal information and possibly listening to conversations, verbal and/or electronic.

Perhaps Paul has some sound advice: “Be careful, then how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.” Paul just finished talking about the contrast between light and darkness, which is, living apart from Christ and living in Christ. Now he takes up the contrast of wise and unwise.

What is it to be wise? It refers to reflective thinking. Knowing what God desires, understanding his principles for daily living and putting them into action. If we live according to God’s standards we shouldn’t have to fear what others may say or think. They may not agree or like what is spoken as truth, but we are accountable to God not man.

In addition to that we need to seize the opportunities that God brings our way to expose evil and teach truth, to build up and not tear down, to help rather than ignore, to pray rather than negative criticism. (Eph. 5:11)  As children of God who are to reflect his light he will give opportunities to deposit his truth in someone’s life one way or another. Pray for them, and keep your eyes open for God’s ordained opportunities.
