PILOT KNOB LUTHERAN COMMUNIQUÉ
(Official communication to the public)
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. . . . Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness. . . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them.”
There are two views regarding the origin of the universe, world, and life itself. The first states that it all came about by chance, or accident from non-living material. This is commonly referred to as evolution. The second states that the God of scripture spoke everything into existence in six, twenty-four-hour days and the creation of man was His supreme act, making mankind in His image.
With so much debate about evolution and creation does it matter. Is it worth arguing over or even talking about? If life in the world came about from non-life and there is no God then with respect to laws, they become the will of the people or the imposed will of a country’s leaders.
Case in point is Nazi Germany, under the leadership of Hitler he believed the Jewish people to be a bit less than fully human. He could promote this idea because he didn’t believe in creation, but evolution. This view of the world and mankind lead him to pass laws enabling the German authorities to destroy the Jews with impunity. Killing a Jew was not murder because the Jew was not considered fully human. Similar view of the unborn baby today. When viewed as ‘fetal tissue’ it is not fully human and can therefore be murdered with impunity.
Rejecting creation and favoring evolution means the government can make whatever law he wants and no one can tell him he is wrong because there is no ultimate law by which human laws are subject. That is a scary and dangerous road to travel, where mankind is a law unto himself.
We have been given universal and absolute laws by which to govern and live by and our courts and congress must see them as such if we want to continue in liberty. So, we can see that the ideas we have, right or wrong can and will influence society. What a difference it would make if we all would view life as a precious gift from God our creator.
