(Official communication to the public)

“He lied to the American people; she lied to congress; he is accused of a cover-up; fake news”, these and other news headlines tell us it is difficult to get at the whole truth about what goes on in government. Much is withheld from the media outlets or the facts are twisted and manipulated to mislead and deceive.

This isn’t a new phenomenon, it began with our first parents when Satan asked Eve, “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3:1, 4-5). First, doubt was introduced by questioning God’s word with the intent to deceive followed by an outright lie.

Pontius Pilate the governor of Judea in the first century came face to face with Jesus and he told Pilate he came into the world to ‘testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me. John 18:37. Pilate asks; “What is truth?” he was either saying; what does truth matter, or it is not easy to find truth. What is it? Earlier Jesus told his listeners, I am the truth. . . .

The truth is important and important to tell and know the truth, for words and ideas have consequences. Today we look for political and religious truth and at times it is very hard to come by.  Truth from the political arena is almost always spun to suit the purposes of the one speaking.  Religious truth should be spoken and lived in every Christian church, but unfortunately it is not.  Some times by sheer ignorance and other times by known deception.  In the Christian church there is no excuse for purposely deceiving people either by what is said or by what is withheld.

One thing we can count on, whatever the bible says, whatever it talks about is truth. John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.” Whether it is science or morality, money or relationships God’s word rightly understood will be correct, true and trustworthy, not just for this life but all eternity.  Mt. 24:35.

Are you hearing truth from your church and other forms of media that talks about Christianity? Pilot Knob Lutheran and Calvary Lutheran is a place where truth is discovered.  Come and join us if you do not have a church home.
