PILOT KNOB LUTHERAN COMMUNIQUÉ
(Official communication to the public)
How did the world get in its current predicament in the first place? If we go back to the beginning of creation we see God placed two perfect people – Adam and Eve - in paradise on earth to tend the Garden of Eden. They had a free will to love God or not to love God. Satan, the fallen angel deceived Eve and Adam into believing God lied to them and was keeping a fuller life away from them. By eating the forbidden fruit of one tree they demonstrated open rebellion against God desiring to live independent of Him. They ignored God’s warning: The Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die”. (Genesis 2:16-17) That is exactly what happened, they died spiritually and began dying physically. Their rebellion was passed on to every generation to this day. That is where sin and death came from.” Just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.” (Romans 5:19)
We have been living in open rebellion ever since without the ability to earn in any way God’s forgiveness and without his forgiveness we will never see heaven. However, as I’ve mentioned before, God himself has provided the answer for us. (1 Peter 2:24) “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness”. (Hebrews 9:26b-28) “Jesus has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Yes he became the liar, murderer, thief, adulterer, etc., and died in our place. For that payment to become a reality in your life you simply admit you’re a sinner in need of forgiveness and ask in prayer for Jesus to forgive you and come into your life. The Holy Spirit who is God will live in you and help you mature by reading the Bible, worshiping, and praying. When a Christian leaves this world we will not face judgment for sins but only for the rewards in heaven. Nothing can beat that promise. Are you heaven bound right now?
