(Official communication to the public)

It is difficult to ignore the myriad of news outlets and radio talk shows about the latest shootings. If you find yourself getting tired of hearing about it or you are becoming immune to these killings you are not alone. However, we must not turn a deaf ear or blind eye to the encroaching darkness that is before us. That is exactly Satan’s tactic; wear people down so we become passive and apathetic.

We should limit the amount of exposure to these news reports that go on twenty-four hours a day because it can create very depressing and paranoid thoughts. Also if you are like me, I’m tired of the same old rhetoric – gun control. I’ve never seen nor heard of a gun of any type shooting people at will all by itself. There must be a finger that pulls the trigger and I’m willing to bet that finger is attached to someone who is filled with hate, anger, hurt, darkness (evil) and some kind of mental illness. People who shoot innocent people are not mentally sound, and the responsibility lies at the feet of the shooter, period.

However, there are many influences that can lead someone to this frame of mind and in some cases, an extreme ideology. Of all the contributing factors there are several that stand out in my mind, but not one is solely responsible. I think of the breakdown of the family. The traditional and biblical model of the family is being replaced with an “anything-goes” attitude. Without a stable family of one wife and one husband a can of worms will be opened that creates chaos to varying degrees for everyone involved. I also think about the church where many no longer adhere to its teachings, but instead teach politically correct values and morals, along with the idea everyone will go to heaven because of God’s love. I think too of graphic violent video games that have become the norm as well as far left socialist propaganda talking points.

Is there an answer to this problem, this scourge upon America? Is it confiscating our guns so we are at the mercy of the government? Implement more laws similar to what are already on the books, but aren’t always enforced? There is no one simple answer to a complex problem of human behavior and sin.

We could begin by returning to the God of the bible and adhering to and teaching the Ten Commandments, which is the Law and Jesus’ death and resurrection which is the Gospel. For without turning to Jesus Christ in faith man’s nature will never change, nor will there be the Holy Spirit to bring self-control. Genesis 4:5, 7. For Cain and his offering (vegetables) He had no respect or regard. So Cain was exceedingly angry and indignant and he looked sad and depressed. . . . If you do well will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you, but you must master it. (Amplified Bible)

Indeed our prayers go out the victim’s families, the injured and the perpetrator’s family. Words cannot express the pain and trauma these and others experience now and for years to come.

Father in heaven, have mercy upon those affected by the shooting and America. Pour out your grace mercy and healing and may you stir within us to return to you with all our soul.
