Pilot Knob Lutheran Wisdom 1/17/2024
You’ve probably met people who think they know it all. Perhaps we’ve fallen into that category at some point. We all know or should know that we do not know it all. Only God knows everything. Because God knows everything, He is the true giver of wisdom. Wisdom is receiving knowledge and applying it in practical terms to a given situation. That can be difficult to do sometimes. For one, we can only view the current situation and only speculate about the future; what if such-and -such a thing happens, or if this- -and-that doesn’t take place? Our thinking generally goes downhill. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. That is what we need, wisdom. However, before we run with that, we must look at the context. Vs. 5 falls on the heels of a statement regarding trials in life and how to properly view them. This type of wisdom we can all benefit from at some point. So, how do we get it? Ask! Ask who? Ask our all-wise God whose wisdom is far superior to man’s greatest insight. James said when we ask, God will gladly tell us. No need to play games with God trying to squeeze wisdom from Him. What is required? First ask, second: But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 5:6 The faith James is talking about is first faith in Jesus Christ, a living connection regardless of how strong or weak at the time. Also, the prayer is to be offered in the interest that our faith will mature and that God will happily answer that prayer in the best possible way. Do you need wisdom in your current trial? Ask, and know you will be answered by the God who loves you and is the source of all true wisdom. Pr. Bob Snitzer
