As a follower of Jesus Christ, I believe it is helpful to understand pain and suffering not as random disconnected events that we must endure in our pursuit of happiness. Pain and suffering are spiritual and physical tests to reveal and develop our faith and love of God.
Remember Satan accused Job of serving God only for what he could get or for earthly benefits. Job confesses that God is the one who ‘gives and takes away’ (1:21).
