It doesn’t take long to realize that life can be hard, difficult, and at times painful. That’s not to say life doesn’t have times of joy, victories, and celebrations, it does and we should enjoy them, but we shouldn’t expect that to be the norm. Our world is fallen and we have a mortal enemy who desires to cause pain and hardship. As Christian’s we have God who has overcome all obstacles and has promised to be with us through it all to the very end when he calls us home.
During the course of life we will experience losses of various kinds and degrees which are painful. What we do with them can influence our lives moving forward. I believe much of that has to do with one’s belief or lack of belief in God. Not only in his existence but in his nature. The God of scripture is loving, forgiving, compassionate and able to provide the strength and resolve to move through pain of grief.
How can that be? Jesus experienced firsthand grief at the death of Lazarus, the rejection of Israel and his disciples at his arrest. Yes, Jesus lived in this world and experienced similar problems if not worse problems than we have, and remained faithful. Because of that he is more than able to come along side and hold you while you hurt assuring you that he is in control of all things and as a result you will emerge a stronger person and able to help others in similar situations.
