Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:11-12
Armor: that which is used to protect yourself from bodily harm. Flak jacket or vest is body armor to protect against projectiles. There is also a helmet, gloves and so on. Why would Paul tell us to put on armor? Because it has to do with the environment we all live in, one of relentless attacks from an unseen enemy that is more powerful than we will ever be and very deceitful. Our enemy is Satan and fallen angels (demons) who follow Satan.
We need supernatural armor for a supernatural war. What is this armor we must put on daily? (Vss. 14-18). The belt of truth – scripture; breastplate (flak jacket) or righteousness; boots – peace from God; shield – faith in Jesus Christ; helmet – salvation; and a sword – the Word of God. Lastly but highly important is prayer.
How do we put on the armor? Being in God’s word daily absorbing its truth, living in obedience, sharing the Good News and walking in faith. God has provided this armor so we don’t become a casualty. The attack is not physical, but mental.
Remember, we don’t live in fear of our enemy because he has been defeated and has no authority over us.
