Pilot Knob Lutheran Church Cursed to Blessing 4/16/2025
I continue to share the benefits of Jesus’ death and The Divine Exchange that took
place through the end of time.
A quick review:
Jesus was punished that we may be forgiven.
Jesus was wounded that we may be healed.
Jesus was made sin that we may be righteous.
Jesus died that we might be made alive.
Jesus was made poor that we may be rich. (prosper)
Jesus was shamed that we might receive glory.
The sixth benefit is: Jesus was made a curse that we might receive his blessing.
Galatians 3:13-14 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse
for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in
order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ
Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Notice Paul says the
‘blessing of Abraham’, which is what? Genesis 24:1 Abraham was now very old, and
the Lord had blessed him in every way. Abraham was blessed in all things, which
covers all areas of life. That blessing is made available to all who place their faith in
Jesus Christ who was made a curse. However, the Galatian Christians encountered a
problem somewhere. Galatians 3:1You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched
you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. They took
their eye off the cross and their ‘vision’ became blurred. As a result an evil, Satanic
force confused their understanding of the cross.
It is possible for Christians to be deceived by Satanic forces and obscure the powerful
and authoritative message of the cross. When the message of the cross is unclear
what usually settles in is legalism, just as it did in the Galatian church.
Briefly, legalism refers to achieving a right standing with God by works alone, or by
faith and adding works. The result: Galatians 3:10 For all who rely on the works of the
law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do
everything written in the Book of the Law. In short, legalism will bring one under a
curse; not necessarily the loss of salvation but a life of frustration. There are various
avenues of how we as Christians can come under a curse which space does not allow
me to explain at this time.
In order to keep this brief, I will reference here one of many ways we can come under a
curse. Read Exodus 20:1-6. Breaking the first two commandments can easily bring
one under a curse. But, there is hope.
