Do Good

Pilot Knob Lutheran Do Good 9/25/2024

Galatians 6:9-10 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Results! We all would like to see positive and productive results from our efforts and words. Results can be difficult to see when working with people, such as a teacher or counselor. The political process can be very slow in producing results. How about gardeners and farmers who must wait months for results and sometimes suffer the effects of too little or too much rain, hail, insects, blights, mold and so on. I’m thankful they don’t give up and I know they are too.

Paul tells the Galatian Christians and all Christians to persevere, not to grow weary in doing good to others. When it appears, no one acts upon your advice, or is listening or even cares, don’t give up. Don’t tell yourself its worthless, as Paul says; “Don’t give up…” Why? Because the time, maybe not in our lifetime is not right. The benefits will come in part in this life but the full harvest comes at the end when Jesus returns.

Our actions and words should always be directed toward the benefit of others; enemies and friends alike. We are not responsible for results. We are responsible for our own behavior and efforts that we don’t become discouraged, worn out, run down and give up. We must frequently come to our Lord to receive the Holy Spirit’s continued renewal in strength and faith.

While our ‘doing good’ is directed to all people, it should especially be directed to God’s people; the household of faith or the Christian brother/sisterhood.

This is the Day

Perspective can change everything, and it comes down to our choice. You’ve heard it before; We can look at a glass and see that it is either half full or half empty. One is a positive outlook and one is negative, and both perspectives are correct.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

My Peace I Give You

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Peace treaties here and there. There is so much conflict in our world, no wonder many live in fear, anxiety and with little hope of improvement. Peace is usually defined as the absence of conflict. Some want peace at any price which often leads to regret giving up what you would rather hold on to.
