Possible or Impossible?

Pilot Knob Lutheran               Possible or Impossible?              11/27/2024

Jesus had been approached by a man who was financially successful and very religious. He asked Jesus what he needed to do to gain eternal life. Ironically, being rich and religious did not provide the assurance of salvation for that young man and thankfully so, because it can’t. Upon receiving Jesus’ answer he rejects giving away his wealth to the needy and walks away from Him very sad.

The disciples and others had the understanding at the time that if one was wealthy (successful) and religious, then they were signs of God’s favor and affirmation that God was pleased with you and were on the road to heaven. When the young religious rich man turned away, Jesus said Matthew 19:24 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

It raised the natural question, who can be saved!?

Jesus was pointing out very clearly that man’s attempts at being right with God by his own efforts is futile. It is absolutely impossible! It matters not how successful we are or religious, neither qualify. That is why Jesus said: Vs. 26 “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

He is emphasizing how dependent we are on God and that we can do nothing to achieve eternal life or help with it. That’s the bad news (Law), but the good news is Vs. 26b. with God all things are possible.”  Only God can bring or create the miracle of salvation; for any and every one without exception.

Sweet Surrender

Perhaps a common misconception about Christianity is that walking with God in
righteousness will greatly reduce trials and trouble. A misnomer is if you suffer it’s because of sin in your life.

Learning to Wait

The communique is going to follow a new line of thought. It will be a follow-up on Sunday’s message with application and more information.

WAIT!

What is your preference; waiting or instant gratification? Instant or a least fast is preferred by far. We have: ‘Insta-Lube’ for fast oil changes, microwave ovens, instant potatoes and coffee, fast food restaurants, minute rice, insta gram and the list goes on.

Armor

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
