Heavens

The Heavens Declare

Pilot Knob Lutheran Church         The Heavens Declare 9/3/2025

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

The nations surrounding Israel at that time often worshiped and deified parts of the created world. For example, many worshiped the sun, stars, moon, animals, and man. Sounds silly, but today many believe in a pantheistic worldview that says everything is God and God is everything. So one can worship the sun, moon, and stars and beyond.

Psalm 19 views the world and the heavens as created by a creator, namely God, YHWY. doesn’t say the heavens show the glory of God but declares. Also it doesn’t say the skies display the work of his hands, but proclaim. Instead of viewing the heavens as proof of a creator, the author would like us to think of them as speakers for God. They are heavenly preachers for God’s creation. The author uses a poetic metaphor (something used to represent something else) suggesting we not Look at creation for evidence of God, but we listen to creation speak without a voice. We sometimes say a picture is worth a thousand works. Creation speaks with many more.

So we have the heavens speaking a message from God, since he created everything and they also speak a loud and clear message about God referring to his glory, power and wisdom.

God is not everything and everything is not God. God created everything and is subject to him, including us. How wonderful to know we serve a living, loving, creator who wants us to be with him forever.

This is the Day

Perspective can change everything, and it comes down to our choice. You’ve heard it before; We can look at a glass and see that it is either half full or half empty. One is a positive outlook and one is negative, and both perspectives are correct.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

My Peace I Give You

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Peace treaties here and there. There is so much conflict in our world, no wonder many live in fear, anxiety and with little hope of improvement. Peace is usually defined as the absence of conflict. Some want peace at any price which often leads to regret giving up what you would rather hold on to.
