They Forget

Pilot Knob Lutheran Church          They Forget              6/25/2025

2 Peter 3:5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.

Over the course of 2k years little has changed regarding man’s view of the world, particularly earth’s geological record. As Peter says; many live in deliberate denial of the physical evidence of a global flood. The sedimentary layers that are not flat but curved and angled stretching from one continent to another, fossils and trees standing up right, fish, plants, and things that decay or are eaten quickly.

Along with denying the physical changes caused by a catastrophe, many would also look past the evil that existed two centuries or so prior to the biblical flood. The physical world was not evil or corrupt, the people and governments were. To get an idea of man’s corruption read Romans 1:18-32. This litany of corruptions is never far away. Without the corrective hand of God, along with His divine Word, and without the Holy Spirit, any of us could be guilty of these sins because we share the same fallen and corrupt nature inherited from Adam; stubborn, selfish, greedy, proud and gossipy.

Our world is headed down the same sewer hole as in Noah’s day. However, it doesn’t have to be. The way out, the way to avoid judgment, the way to be in God’s divine family for all eternity is the way of the cross. Jesus offers everyone His mercy, His grace, and His love to receive forgiveness. In addition He gives us who follow Him the Holy Spirit applying to us everything Jesus did on the cross for us, and to keep us from following the desires and lies of our world.

Children at Risk

I’m taking a break from Sunday’s sermon and focusing on youth. Young people are often over looked in church and elsewhere due to their age, education, experience and other factors. Today’s youth are facing challenges that we adults never thought of let alone face. Because of our rapidly changing society it can be difficult understanding what they are experiencing and their temptations.

What is Heaven Like?

I’ve been talking about heaven for the past two weeks and there will be one more. It’s a wonderful place where nearly everyone desires to go, a place with God, perfect peace, perfect health and no pain, temptation, death or evil for all eternity.

What is Heaven Like?

Prior to entering heaven with a new and glorified body the earth and heaven (outer space) will be made new upon Jesus’ return.
