Matthew 21:33-46                Vinedressers                        October 7, 2026

Currently farmers are hard at work harvesting their corn and beans that were planted last April and May. From that time on much has been done to ensure the best yield and quality possible. The farmer is responsible for doing all he can to create an environment that produces these results.

Occasionally while driving through the state or interstate you will come across a field of beans or corn so full of weeds that it is hard telling what was planted. The weeds choke out the good plants, steal the moisture, sunlight and nutrients harming the good plants. One could say that was a negligent farmer who didn’t care too much for his crop.

Jesus shares a similar story of a vineyard that represented Israel, the owner was God and the farmers were religious leaders. Think about the current spiritual climate of today’s churches. There are pastors who don’t believe the entire bible is God’s inerrant word, abortions is supported, prayers are offered to mother god, Jesus’ miracles are not true, and Jesus was nonbinary; which means Jesus was not male or female, but heperceived Himself to be something in between.

The list of spiritual abuses and deception could go on. What we have in many churches today are spiritual leaders who are planting weeds and not cultivating an environment for life, faith and salvation by grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ. The result can be deception and death to one’s spiritual life.

Acts 17:10-12 As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.

We must not allow ourselves to be at the mercy of those who tell us what the bible says. We must be like the Berean Christians who examined the scriptures to discover and confirm truth.  Are you doing more than reading a devotional? Do you believe everyone who speaks about the bible without examining the scriptures?

Isaiah 55:10-11 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
