In a world that is saturated in negative news, people on one side of the moral and political spectrum vilifying their opponents’ beliefs and opinions, it becomes easier to be critical of our own thoughts and behavior or lack of. Where does that end; it doesn’t until we are defeated. It robs us of joy and peace not to mention truth.

King David, after his selfish blunder with another man’s wife, Bathsheba, comes under great conviction for his immoral action and having her husband murdered to cover up his sin. In a court of law, he would have been convicted of adultery, conspiracy, and premeditated murder. Sentence – death; that would be justice.

Instead of continuing to cover up his behavior with lies, and claiming to be innocent or someone else’s fault he confesses his wrong against Bathsheba, her husband and most importantly, God. David should have been stoned to death, but because of his sincere repentance and deep regret and sorrow God forgave him.

Psalm 51:7-10 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. No sin is too great to be forgiven. Do you feel you’ve done something that would keep you from coming close to God? Do you feel unworthy of His love and acceptance? God desires you to come close to Him, confessing and turning away from sin and receiving His total forgiveness. Being forgiven does not always erase the natural consequences of our sin, but even then, God brings His mercy and help in our time of need.

Forgiveness from God and thus being able to forgive ourselves will bring great peace and healing to a broken and hurting heart.

Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation

    and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Not Snuff Out

Do you ever feel discouraged and not worthy of God’s love, attention and healing? Do you think at times you’ve sinned to often or your sin is too grevious and God really doesn’t want you?

Comfort

We don’t really know the extent of someone’s pain or hurt unless we’ve experienced it ourselves. We may say to someone grieving; ‘I know how you feel,’ unless you’ve been in a similar situation and even then not completely for each person’s experience is unique.
