Gracious to You

Pilot Knob Lutheran        Gracious to You                 8/28/2024

The Aaronic benediction continues with the words: and be gracious to you. Numbers 6:24-26: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

Prior to Numbers 6 we have the account of Aaron caving into people to fashion an idol out of Gold in the image of a calf and all of Israel worshipped that evil thing. God would have been justified in destroying Aaron, but he didn’t. At the end of the chapter God says to Aaron in so many words to tell God’s people that he is gracious and forgiving. Aaron would be God’s mouth piece in declaring the grace given him. God is not a vindictive God, and holds no grudge. He doesn’t rub it in, he rubs it out.

The Germans invented the first lead pencil in 1662. However, it wasn’t until March 30, 1858 that someone came up with the idea of attaching a rubber eraser to the top of the pencil. For 196 years, people could write, but couldn’t erase.

That has never been God’s problem. He has an eraser that never wears out. He began erasing sin since Adam and Eve rebelled about 6000 years ago and continues to this day. Isn’t it a relief to know that we can begin each day with a clean slate that is continually erased with the blood of the Lamb?

We too must erase forgiven sin from our minds and not allow it to pull us down.

God is gracious.

Forgiveness & Healing

I began last week with our topic for Lent: The Divine Exchange. That is, what all took place when Jesus was nailed to a tree – cross? More than most of us are aware. The bible explains that humanity has a universal problem called sin. We have rebelled against God. The cross of Christ is the only all-sufficient and eternal answer for our problem.

First Sunday In Lent

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

The Answer

As we begin the Lenten season I will be focusing on the result of Christmas: God became a man and lived among us, but why? Why would God, a spirit come to his creation as a created being, that is in human flesh and live as people did during the harsh Roman Empire?
