Matthew 9:27-38           June 17, 2026

Sunday, we saw the irony of two blind men calling Jesus the “Son of David.” They could not see Him yet they believed He was the long-awaited Messiah who would be known as the “Son of David” according to Isaiah 9:7. The blind men could see this even before Jesus’ disciples and religious leaders.

Jesus opened their eyes so they could see Him and opened their spiritual eyes to see Him as the Son of God, Messiah. We too need our spiritual eyes opened to see Jesus for who He truly is. There are millions of people who are spiritually blind to the truth about God, Jesus, the bible and eternal life. How can or will they know?

Matthew 9:37-38 he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” The spiritual fields of people’s souls were ripe two thousand years ago and are more so today. Jesus gives us a command that I suppose most overlook: pray that God will send out more workers. Does that refer to overseas missionaries? Yes, but more. It speaks to every follower of Jesus Christ. Often when we pray for something, God answers our prayers by using us. Are you prepared to be used by God to show another person the love of God, the forgiveness He offers and eternal life. The reality is, we are missionaries right at home and to our neighborhood.

May God open our eyes to those opportunities and our mouths to share truth and our hands to put our faith into action.

Isaiah 55:10-11 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Three in One, Does it Matter?

When discussing the trinity with someone who doesn’t believe it or is confused, I learned from experience that it does not help to use ‘trinitarian texts’ such as the great commission in Matthew 28 where it mentions the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

A Prayer for Transition

We don’t naturally consider the crucifixion as a means of being glorified. It was a means of maximizing pain, suffering, humiliation and the one crucified was considered damned by God.

No Orphans

Kids become orphans by various means. Abandoned by their parent(s), death of parents or guardian, or simply being unwanted. A number of them may be separated from their siblings and even be moved from one foster family to another.
