Why Go To Church?

Pilot Knob Lutheran              Why Go To Church?                 8/9/2023

I read this years ago and it was recently sent to me. It is well worth the read.

Why go to church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.

He wrote: “I’ve gone for 30 years now, and in that time, I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time. The preachers are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all”.

This started a real controversy in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ column.

Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

“I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.

Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible!

Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!

VOTE!!

When this comes in your email box there will be twenty-eight days before the election, one that will impact the direction of America and the world for generations to come. This is a very serious time for America and the world, too serious not to vote.

In The Beginning

As many of you who attend Pilot Knob Lutheran, every other Sunday we try to memorize or become familiar with a Bible verse, as Psalm 119:11 says: I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

19th Sunday after Pentecost

“Watch your thoughts, for they will become actions. Watch
your actions, for they’ll become… habits. Watch your habits
for they will forge your character. Watch your character, for it
will make your destiny.” -MARGARET THATCHER

Do Good

Results! We all would like to see positive and productive results from our efforts and words. Results can be difficult to see when working with people, such as a teacher or counselor. The political process can be very slow in producing results. How about gardeners and farmers who must wait months for results and sometimes suffer the effects of too little or too much rain, hail, insects, blights, mold and so on. I’m thankful they don’t give up and I know they are too.
