Pilot Knob Lutheran Wisdom 6/26/2024
If you are looking for a daily bible reading, one suggestion is to read one chapter of Proverbs a day and each month you will read the entire book. This daily reading can be incorporated into any other bible reading plan you are currently using.
As you begin you will notice that Chapters 1-9 talk a lot about wisdom and you will also notice that wisdom is personified as a woman who invites those who hear her to receive God’s gift of wisdom. Proverbs 1:20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square. Because the Hebrew word for wisdom is feminine, wisdom is a woman. Also, the image of a woman is meant to portray wisdom as attractive to the son and counters the attraction of the foolish and its immoral ways.
Wisdom in Proverbs is a type of instructional literature, or as we would say, “words of wisdom’ from a father to his son. The people of the ancient near East knew the value of a father instilling wisdom, truth, and knowledge in their children from early on. Today we need to be reminded that the first 7-9 years in a child’s life are very critical in establishing a biblical worldview and a love for God. Communist dictators knew this very well. It has been said: “give me your child until nine years old and I will have him for the rest of his life. Wow! What a responsibility and privilege given to parents to not only instruct but to know and filter what they are learning in school. Since prayer (God) was removed from schools in 1962 it has become Satan’s workshop, and that is no exaggeration.
So what is wisdom and how can we get it? This will be for future communiques.
