Lack Wisdom?

Pilot Knob Lutheran Church          Lack Wisdom?           7/23/2025

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

We may want to understand this verse as saying: if you need wisdom, insight, or discernment in daily life, just ask. While that may be true, the context is in the midst of trials.

Psalm 73 and the book of Job speak of God-fearing men and women who struggle with trials and difficulties that the unbelievers do not have. (At least it can appear that way). It all seems so unfair, and there are no easy answers or formulas to follow. This is the context of asking for wisdom.

When a follower of Jesus Christ does their best to follow God and be obedient and find themselves in what appears to be an unfair circumstance, divine wisdom is needed. What do we do? Assume we are being punished for something we are unaware of; that God is uncaring, unaware or we are not important enough? No! the simple answer is; Ask! God is more than willing to supply it.

How, you may ask? It begins with faith in Jesus Christ as savior, proceeds in prayer and searches the Word of God. Most answers are in the bible and the Holy Spirit’s prompting is an application of His Word. Will God resent our asking? Not at all. He wants us to come to Him with the simple faith of a child, not doubting Him or His Word (Vs. 6). When life gets hard humbly ask God for wisdom, keep on asking and draw near to Him daily. Remember, He loves you.

Sweet Surrender

Perhaps a common misconception about Christianity is that walking with God in
righteousness will greatly reduce trials and trouble. A misnomer is if you suffer it’s because of sin in your life.

Learning to Wait

The communique is going to follow a new line of thought. It will be a follow-up on Sunday’s message with application and more information.

WAIT!

What is your preference; waiting or instant gratification? Instant or a least fast is preferred by far. We have: ‘Insta-Lube’ for fast oil changes, microwave ovens, instant potatoes and coffee, fast food restaurants, minute rice, insta gram and the list goes on.

Armor

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
