God Knows

Pilot Knob Lutheran Church            God Knows                         1/4/2023

Psalm 139:1-3 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.  You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

Over the past two years there have been countless and ongoing investigations of wrong doing. Actions and motives hidden away and concealed by lies, and half-truths. People can coverup their evil schemes and deeds from each other for only so long. However, as scripture says: “your sins will find you out.” Numbers 32:23 It may take years, sometimes less, but what is hidden usually comes to light.

We may not know all the details and motives of those who plot evil and deception, but we are guaranteed that God knows for he sees all, and remembers all sins that have not been forgiven. As the Psalmist says, he knows our every move, thoughts, and words even before we speak them. Not only that, but God knew us prior to our birth. (Vss. 15-16a).

This is not a bad thing; it is very good. There is no place we can go that God does not see or know beforehand. He knows the sincerity of our thoughts and motives even though others may misunderstand or not believe.

This also means God knows what we are experiencing at any given time; joy or anxiety, fear or confidence and will provide what is necessary for every situation

As we begin a new year may our confidence and faith grow stronger knowing God is not only with us, but is before us clearing the way to walk with him each day.

Freedom

Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. We all want to be free to make our own decisions, think what we want and speak what is on our minds, just so it doesn’t incite violence.

Think about it. “Too many Christians see the study of their playbook, the Bible, as an inconvenient obligation to endure and wonder why their Christian lives are so ineffective and boring.” -Dr. Karl Payne

Fear

There is a lot of fear in our world and our lives these days. The fear of the unknown, illness, natural disasters, violence, being make to look like a fool, dark spirits, failure, and the list goes on. Jesus repeatedly said to His people, ‘Do not fear,” “fear not,” and “do not be afraid.” How could he say that to those living in a violent world in both the Old Testament and the New?
