No Other Name

Pilot Knob Lutheran         No Other Name           11/13/2024

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

The context of this declaration is John and Peter’s healing of a forty – year old man who was lame from birth in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The report of this spread like wildfire. The lame man was placed in front of the temple everyday by his parents so he could beg for donations. Everyone knew him and that his condition was not fake. Such a dramatic healing which would transform the man’s life would be something to talk about on every street corner and coffee shop until the entire town heard.

The result led to people giving praise and glory to God. In other words, the praise and attention shifted from the religious leaders to God, specifically to Jesus. This did not sit well with the religious establishment. They became very jealous and angry enough to demand they stop speaking about Jesus; who, by the way, was crucified only a few months prior and rose from the dead. This is something they couldn’t deny nor the healing of the lame man, yet neither miracle changed their mind about Jesus, they continued to deny Him and suppress the truth.

People today are no different. Confronted with facts only reinforces their stubbornness and willingness to embrace what is clearly not true.

When threatened by the authorities to stop talking to others about Jesus what would you have done? What might be your reaction? Peter and John made it clear they were rejecting the only way and only person that can rescue them from eternal death and separation from God. Nothing has changed two-thousand years later. As Jesus declared in John 14:6 “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Are you looking for a different path to God? Are you willing to share the truth regardless of what others say or threaten to do? Pr. Bob Snitzer

Easter Sunday 2025

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life. John 3:16

Cursed to Blessing

Jesus was punished that we may be forgiven.
Jesus was wounded that we may be healed.
Jesus was made sin that we may be righteous.
Jesus died that we might be made alive.
Jesus was made poor that we may be rich. (prosper)
Jesus was shamed that we might receive glory.

Good Friday 2025

What is good about Good Friday? Why isn’t it called Bad Friday? Because out of the appallingly bad came what was inexpressibly good. And the good trumps the bad, because though the bad was temporary, the good is eternal.

Sixth Sunday in Lent

“Shame is a basic emotion that all people experience. Yet shame is the issue that drives almost every compulsive, self-defeating behavior
known to man. Shame is at the root of all addictions. Most people are ashamed to admit shame.” ~Minirth-Meier Life Encyclopedia
