desire

Desire

Pilot Knob Lutheran Church          Desire                  1/15/2025

Psalm 73:25-26 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

This Psalm talks about being envious of the wicked who are prosperous, appear to have no worries and having it all together. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Vs. 3 The wealthy wicked may have some advantages over the believer who is not considered wealthy. Then the psalmist comes before God: …I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny, Vs. 17 and thinks about their eternal destiny. The wicked have no hope of reward, peace, rest or seeing God. Their wealth, possessions and actions mean nothing. That is a very sad ending that never ends.

The author then focuses on himself and other believers by considering the only God there is, the God in heaven. This becomes his greatest desire; to be in a right relationship with God his creator. Why? Because as he grows older and his health begins to fail, he knows God is his strength to see him through all of life’s problems no matter what they may be: physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, and so on. God alone qualifies as our refuge, shelter, strength, rock, and portion.

If you are walking with God through Jesus Christ He will provide you with all you need to live each day whether you are old, in ill health, or young and in great physical and mental condition.

The question is: “What is your greatest desire?” Is it something this world has to offer, or is it Jesus Christ? Do not envy others, instead seek God, and draw close to Him, and know he will provide for all your needs until He calls you home.

They Forget

Over the course of 2k years little has changed regarding man’s view of the world, particularly earth’s geological record. As Peter says; many live in deliberate denial of the physical evidence of a global flood.

What is Faith

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Faith, we can’t live without it, but what is it?
