Attitude

Thanks & Praise

Pilot Knob Lutheran Church          Thanks & Praise          8/27/2025

Attitude: from the moment we wake up our attitude can and will shape how our day will go; how we look at events and people is often determined by our attitude. However, attitude is something we can change, it should not control us.

Fernando Ortega has a song titled, “Give Me Jesus.” He sings: “In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.” That is a good way to begin the day, allowing God to influence our attitude.

What attitude do we bring to church on Sunday? More importantly what attitude do we have on Saturday and Sunday morning before we walk out of the house and through the church doors?

As Psalm 100:4 declares: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Our attitude and approach before God should begin with thanking God for what He does followed by praise for who He is; His greatness, authority, love and justice. Setting the tone when we enter the sanctuary focused on giving God thanks and praise regardless of our current struggles, depression or pain takes our eyes off ourselves and on to the God who wants to bless us with His love, grace and hope.

Begin your devotional time, and Sunday worship with thanksgiving and praise and see what difference it makes as well as other times of the day.

Freedom

Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. We all want to be free to make our own decisions, think what we want and speak what is on our minds, just so it doesn’t incite violence.

Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Think about it. “Too many Christians see the study of their playbook, the Bible, as an inconvenient obligation to endure and wonder why their Christian lives are so ineffective and boring.” -Dr. Karl Payne

Fear

There is a lot of fear in our world and our lives these days. The fear of the unknown, illness, natural disasters, violence, being make to look like a fool, dark spirits, failure, and the list goes on. Jesus repeatedly said to His people, ‘Do not fear,” “fear not,” and “do not be afraid.” How could he say that to those living in a violent world in both the Old Testament and the New?

Testing

James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
